NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 2 Tufts in the NESCAC opener for both schools by a score of 17-5 on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.
Tufts (1-0, NESCAC 1-0) was paced by senior Catherine Lawliss, who scored five goals and tallied 4 assists. She opened up the scoring just two minutes into the competition, which was followed by three consecutive finishes from Kirsten Grazewski. The Jumbos kept their lead throughout the remainder of the game.
The Camels responded with a man-up goal from freshman
Julianna Ingrassia (Garden City, N.Y.) that was assisted by sophomore
Emily Yorns (Longmeadow, Mass.) at 13:20. Ingrassia led the Camels netting two goals, while Yorns, freshman
Hailey Fahey (Norwich, Vt.), and
Kelly Wolin (Sudbury, Mass.) each had one apiece.
Despite the scoring margin, freshman goalkeeper
Violette Nidds (Ridgewood, N.J.) finished all 60 minutes of play with 13 saves. Tufts' Molly Laliberty stopped eight shots to earn the win.
Moving forward, Connecticut College (0-2, NESCAC 0-1) will travel up to Lewiston, Maine to take on Bates next Saturday, April 10th at 2 p.m.
