Men’s Soccer Wraps Up Perfect NESCAC Weekend In Maine With 1-0 Triumph Over Colby

By Claire Gulbin '22

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Connecticut College men's soccer team defeated Colby College by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Camels registered their second NESCAC win on the road in as many days.

The first half was dominated by the Camels as they outshot the Mules by a large margin, 16-2, over the first 45 minutes. Connecticut College senior Augie Djerdjaj (Mahopac, N.Y.) was then able to find the net early in the second half during the 49th minute. After an on-target corner kick from sophomore Rye Jaran (Downingtownn, Pa.) was deflected, Jaran got a second attempt to send the ball into the box where he connected with Djerdjaj, who struck the ball for the goal that eventually decided the game.

While the Mules had their best chance in the final four minutes to tie the score, junior goalkeeper Sam Maidenberg (South Orange, N.J.) and the Camel defense managed to complete an impressive performance and hold off several last-effort shots on goal to seal the game's fate at 1-0. The Camels held Colby to just nine shots total, seven of which came in the second half.

Jackson made 12 saves for Colby (2-2, NESCAC 1-1) in the loss while Maidenberg stopped three as the Camels picked up the shutout victory.

Connecticut College (2-1, NESCAC 2-0) will next take on Endicott College at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.
