By: Zach Perbeck

AMHERST, Mass. - The Connecticut College women's hockey team fell to NESCAC foe Amherst by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday evening.

The Camels fell behind late in the first period on a goal in the 19th minute by Amherst's Angelina Wiater despite seven shots on goal for Connecticut College. The Mammoths totaled 16 shots on goal in the first period compared to only seven for the Camels, but thanks to junior goalkeeper Abby Wieczorek (Winnetka, Ill.) the Camels were able to hold the Mammoths to just one score in the first period and head into the first intermission trailing by one score.

The Mammoths remained in the lead throughout the second period until the ninth minute when Connecticut College junior Caroline O'Keefe (Winthrop, Mass.) tied the game on the back of assists by junior Melanie Conca (Nutley, N.J.) and senior Kaaren Liston (Houghton, Mich.). The Camels led their opponents in shots on goal in the second period by a tally of 11-10 despite trailing the Mammoths in total shots by a 17-15 margin and were able to capitalize on those opportunities to tie the game heading into the second intermission.

The third period saw Amherst lead the Camels in shots on goal once again, with 13 opportunities compared to just seven for Connecticut College. This led to a goal in the 10th minute of the third period by the Mammoth's Rylee Glennon which would prove to be the winning goal for Amherst.

Wieczorek earned the loss for the Camels despite totaling 37 saves, as Caitlin Walker earned the win for Amherst with 24 saves. The Mammoths led the Camels in shots on goal by a total of 39-25.
