NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team fell to Williams 4-1 on Friday night at Dayton Arena, snapping the Camels' four-game unbeaten streak. Steven Senese (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for Conn.
Both teams were able to get shots on net in the early portion of the game, but the first real opportunity came for the Ephs on the power play. Camels goaltender Cam Fernandez (Fairfield, Conn.) was able to turn back three shots, keeping the game scoreless. The Ephs outshot Conn 10-5, but the first period would end without a score.
Connecticut College (4-8-1) began the second period a man up following a hooking call on Williams. The Camels possessed the puck well, but the power play was ultimately unsuccessful. Following the expiration of the penalty, Williams would find the back of the net on a Sean Clarke goal from close range in front of the Camel net, giving the Ephs the 1-0 lead.
Williams would score again minutes later, when Ephs forward Nick Altmann entered the Camels zone as the defense was changing lines. Altmann capitalized on the opportunity and finished the breakaway extending the lead to 2–0.
With five minutes left in the second period, Conn would answer. After a tie up in front of the Williams net, Senese was able to score after the puck drifted behind the Ephs' defense. The Camels trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Conn nearly tied the game to start off the third period when Paul Capozzi (Lake Forest, Ill.) received a cross-ice pass from center Seth Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) but the puck just found the side of the net.
Williams (8-7) would push their lead to 3-1 just under five minutes into the third period, when Mac Carso was able to bury home a shot that rebounded off the leg pad of Fernandez. Three minutes later, the Ephs would add one more as Clark scored his second goal of the game when Carso found him with a pass from the point to down low in the slot. Both goals came on the power play for Williams.
The Camels finished 1-5 on power play conversions while the Ephs scored on two out of three of their opportunities.
Connecticut College will hit the ice next against Middlebury on Sunday, January 30th at 4 p.m.
