Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Falls To Williams 3-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team dropped a NESCAC matchup to Williams on Monday night. The Ephs shut out the Camels 3-0 to split the two-day series at one win a piece.

For the second consecutive day, Conn College and Williams (10-7-0, 6-6-0 NESCAC) matched up at Lansing Chapman Rink. After an overtime win by the Camels on Sunday, the Ephs came into the game looking to even the season series. Goaltender Chloe Heiting withstood an aggressive Camels attack and stopped 41 shots en route to a shutout win.

Near the end of the first period, Bella DeLuca found Brianna Hill in the slot who was able to get it past Conn goalie Carly Denora (Verona, N.J.) and put the home team on the board first. Williams would lead 1-0 at the end of the first.

The next 20 minutes were a showcase for the Ephs stingy defense. Despite committing three penalties and playing a chunk of the period shorthanded, the Williams penalty kill unit did its job and kept the Camels off the scoreboard. Conn's best chance came after a hooking call on the Ephs. Off of the face-off, Natalie Witkowski (Cheshire, Conn.) had a dangerous opportunity firing the puck toward the opponents' goal, but Heiting held tough denying her shot and a flurry of ensuing rebounds. Heiting stopped 15 shots in the second period alone, frustrating the Conn offensive attack.

Midway through the third period, the Ephs were able to extend their lead after Hill picked up a loose puck and sent it to Christina Halloran who netted her first goal of the season. Down 2-0 with just over three minutes left to play, the Camels pulled Denora from net to utilize the extra attacker. Conn was unable to convert and Halloran corralled a stray puck and crossed it to Avery Dunn who scored the empty net goal sealing the 3-0 win for Williams.

Denora made 22 saves in goal and the Camels did not commit a penalty.

Connecticut College (7-9-2, 3-8-0 NESCAC) will play nationally-ranked Norwich at Dayton Arena on February 8 at 7 p.m.
