Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's volleyball team lost in three sets at Amherst College on Saturday afternoon at Le Frak Gymnasium.

The Mammoths (8-3 overall, 4-1 NESCAC) won by set scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-23. Caroline Tilton paved the way with a match-high 18 kills.

Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) led Conn with 10 kills and finished one dig shy of a double-double. Katherine Randall (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in nine kills and 16 digs while Natasha Shrivastava (San Diego, Calif.) handed out 24 assists and added 10 digs.

The match got off to a rough start for the Camels, who fell behind 9-1 in the opening set and never recovered. Amherst led by as many as 15 in the stanza and pumped out 14 kills against only three errors.

Conn trailed in the second set before making a move late, ripping off five straight points to take their first lead of the match at 18-17. However, the Mammoths shut down the rally with eight straight points, the final three coming on service aces by Alexandra Trofort.

The Camels enjoyed leads of 7-4, 13-9 and 18-13 in the final set but couldn't hold on. The Mammoths used a 6-0 spurt to grab a 19-18 advantage, and after Conn pulled back in front to lead 22-21, the hosts won four of the next five points to clinch the match. 

Conn College (5-6 overall, 1-4 NESCAC) will next host Mitchell College on Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
