Volleyball Sweeps Past Mitchell 3-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's volleyball team got back on the winning track with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Mitchell College on Tuesday night at Luce Field House.

The Camels evened their record at 6-6 overall as Katherine Randall (Chicago, Ill.) paved the way with 10 kills and 14 digs. Lauren Carey (New York, N.Y.) made her first start of the season and handed out a match-high 31 assists to go with 15 digs, and Taylor Knott (Chapel Hill, N.C.) added seven kills on 17 swings.

Olivia DeLoach (Spring Hill, Fla.) supplied a match-high 13 kills to lead Mitchell, which dropped to 8-6 on the season.

In the opening set, the Camels took control behind a 6-0 run that featured two service aces by Nicolette Marino (Verona, N.J.) and a pair of kills by Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.). Mitchell later narrowed the gap to 12-10, but Conn responded with another 6-0 spurt to cushion the lead. DeLoach kept the Mariners close with seven kills in the set, but the hosts got a late kill from Emma Wheeler (Meredith, N.H.) and a pair of Mitchell errors to close out the set.

Conn never trailed in either of the final two sets en route to the victory. In the second set, a 4-0 start gave the Camels the early momentum, and they built their lead to as many as eight as Randall provided four kills. The final set was tighter and included big swings for each side. Knott sparked the offense with six kills in the stanza as Conn held off a late Mitchell comeback.

Conn College returns to NESCAC play at Middlebury College on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
