Field Hockey Nabs Big NESCAC Win at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Connecticut College field hockey team never trailed in a 4-1 victory at Colby College on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC play at Bill Alfond Field.

A hat trick by Kendall Arnold (Pawling, N.Y.) helped propel the Camels to their first conference victory since 2019. In addition to eclipsing its win total from a year ago, Conn also remained in the hunt for a NESCAC Championship berth.

The only goal of the first half came just over six minutes into the contest as Arnold scored on a two-on-one rush against the Colby goalie. The play started with a free hit on Conn's defensive end, as Tatum Courtmanche (Madison, Conn.) slipped a pass up the sideline to start the break. Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) outran a defender to track down the ball before slotting a pass to Kendall, who scored stick side against Emily Loeb for the early 1-0 advantage.

The Camels clung to the one-goal advantage for the rest of the half. Loeb made two saves to keep the Mules close, but Conn dominated with a 6-1 advantage in total shots that included a 3-0 edge in shots on goal.

Arnold added her second tally just two minutes into the second half to give Conn some breathing room. Sydney Cresta (Swampscott, Mass.) served a ball into the scoring circle from the left wing that found Arnold in front of the cage near the far post. Arnold redirected the ball inside the right post for the first multi-goal game of her career.

Colby got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter, as a goal by Casey Winslow cut Conn's lead in half. The Camels responded with a pair of scores in the final 10 minutes of the game to sew up the victory. Arnold completed the hat trick with 9:04 remaining, finishing on another deflection in front of the goal. McGann tacked on an insurance goal less than three minutes later, weaving her way through the Colby defense to get a clean look against the goalie.

Conn's defense turned in a stellar effort, limiting the Mules to only four shots on the afternoon. Sadie Abuhaidar (Park City, Utah) made her first career start in goal and finished with one save and the victory.

Conn College (3-9 overall, 1-7 NESCAC) wraps up a five-game road trip at Roger Williams University on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m.
