Women's Soccer Knocked Out Of NESCAC Tournament By Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. - The Connecticut College women's soccer team fell to Amherst 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament at Hitchcock Field.

Three different Mammoths scored to propel top-seeded Amherst to the semifinals of the postseason tournament.

Throughout the first half, the Camels had trouble developing any momentum on the offensive end. Amherst outshot Conn 11-2 and controlled the majority of possession on the Camels' defensive half.

At the 34:52 mark, the Mammoths were able to get on the scoreboard after Abby Schwartz dribbled into the Conn penalty area and crossed it to the center of the box to Sarah Sullivan, who redirected the pass into the back of the net for the first goal of the game.

Following the halftime break, Amherst was able to extend its lead 15 minutes into the second half. As Camels keeper Sarah Hall (Tualatin, Ore.) came out of the goal crease to stop a through ball, she collided with her own defender resulting in a loose ball and an open net. Amherst forward Lisa Katz was able to take advantage of the misstep and easily scored to make it a two-goal lead for the hosts.

Just six minutes later, following an Amherst corner kick, Charlotte Huang took a turnaround shot from inside the Camel's penalty box. Huang's attempt was located perfectly into the upper right corner of the net to extend the advantage.

Despite several attempts to get onto the scoreboard, the Mammoths were able to neutralize any threats from the Camels, and came away with the 3-0 victory.

Hall made three saves in goal, while her counterpart, Mika Fisher, stopped five shots for the Mammoths.

With the win, Amherst (14-2) advances to the NESCAC semifinals and will play seventh-seeded Tufts.

Connecticut College (7-6-3) will now wait to see if its resume is strong enough to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Selections will be made on Monday, November 7.
