Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team wrapped up a 1-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.

A second-half goal by Clare Mulvihill (West Caldwell, N.J.) was all the Camels needed in their final non-conference match-up of the season. Conn improved to 6-2-1 overall and finished 4-1-0 against non-league foes.

The Camels controlled play from start to finish, but had nothing to show for it after a scoreless first half. Conn took 10 shots in the stanza and put five on goal, all of which were turned away by ECSU goalie Rachel Hughes.

Conn earned five corner kicks in the half and produced several dangerous chances off set pieces. In the 15th minute, Camille Cortes (Annandale, Va.) fired a shot just wide of the left post. Later, with 2:30 remaining in the period, Alexa Weiner (Fairfield, Conn.) played a corner to the far post that nearly connected with Priscilla Ameyaw (Simsbury, Conn.) for a wide-open look on the doorstep of the goal.

The Camels dominated possession in the half and played smothering defense. The Warriors spent limited time in their offensive third and didn't record a shot.

Eastern's first scoring chance came minutes into the second half, when a Conn foul yielded a free kick from five yards outside of the box. Dani Rovalino put her shot on frame, but goalkeeper Sarah Hall (Tualatin, Oregon) made a diving stop to her left to keep the game scoreless.

In the 54th minute, Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) had a header that was punched away by a diving Hughes. Minutes later, Johnson attempted a blast from 25 yards out that just sailed over the crossbar.

Conn's hard work finally paid off in the 64th minute when Mulvihill netted her first goal of the season. Lauren Anastos (Hull, Mass.) started the sequence with a cross into the box for Jamie Scarpantonio (Glastonbury, Conn.), who was cut off by a defender. The ball remained loose until Mulvihill fought off a defender and beat Hughes with a left-footed shot to the top-right corner.

Hall made two more saves over the final 25 minutes to protect the lead, earning her fourth shutout of the season. The Camels finished with a 17-3 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corners.

Conn College returns to NESCAC play at Williams College on Saturday, October 8 at noon.
