WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – No. 11 Williams College came away with a 7-0 victory over Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC field hockey action at Williamson Field.
The Ephs put 17 of their 28 shots on goal as Emily Batchelor led the way with three goals. Williams improved to 7-3 overall and evened its conference record at 3-3.
Conn goalie
Sophie Moniz (Alexandria, Va.) made a season-high 10 saves in the setback. The Camels dropped to 2-8 overall (0-6 NESCAC).
Conn played a strong first quarter in which it outshot Williams 4-2 and held a 2-0 edge in penalty corners. The Ephs managed the only goal, however, as Faith Stineman scored just 6:30 into the contest.
Williams added a pair of goals in the second quarter to lead 3-0 at halftime. Batchelor supplied both tallies, which came 2:20 apart on assists by Meaghan Boehm and Kiki Higgins.
The Ephs took 14 shots and tacked on two goals in the third quarter. The damage could have been greater had it not been for Moniz, who turned away seven shots in the period.
Batchelor completed the hat trick in the fourth quarter to make it 6-0. With less than five minutes remaining in the game, Boehm chipped in the final score to give the Ephs a seven-goal cushion.
Williams goalies Carson Stephenson and Gates Tenerowicz each played a half and combined for seven saves in the shutout.
Saturday marked Conn's fourth-straight game against a nationally-ranked opponent. That trend will continue on Sunday, October 9 when the Camels visit No. 1 Middlebury College at 1 p.m.
