CANTON, N.Y. – Led by seniors
Matt Carter (Manchester, Mass.) and
Jeffrey Love (Union, N.J.), the Connecticut College men's cross country team placed fourth among 23 scoring teams with 132 points at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at St. Lawrence College.
Carter and Love completed the 8,000-meter circuit by posting third and fifth-place marks of 25:23.4 and 25:36.7, respectively. As a result of their performances, they both earned all-region laurels, along with first year Jonathan Norton (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) who placed 35th overall and third on the team in 26:50.8. Sophomore Matt Scardigno (Port Washington, N.Y.) punched in a time of 27:09, which was good for 43rd, and junior Brendan Mellitt (Cheshire, Conn.) was 46th in 27:18.9 to round out the top five finishers for the Camels.
By producing three runners in the top-10, Williams cruised to the team title to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. They finished with 40 points. RPI was second with 57 points, and Middlebury was third with 99. Conn and St. Lawrence (134) completed the top five in the standings, and Elias Lindgren of Williams won the individual crown in 25:03.9.
Connecticut College will now wait to see if it will be selected to compete as a team at the NCAA Championships in Michigan. Teams and additional individuals who qualify will be announced tomorrow.
