Trinity Tops Men's Ice Hockey

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team dropped a NESCAC matchup to Trinity 5-2 on Saturday afternoon on the road.

After an even game for the first two periods, the Bantams scored three times in the final period to pick up the victory over the Camels.

Conn started off hot in the first 20 minutes. Midway through the opening frame, Cole Eichler (King, Ontario) skated just past the blue line and fired a quick wrister on Trinity goaltender J.P. Mella. The puck trickled through Mella's legs, and into the back of the net to give the Camels a 1-0 lead. For Eichler, the score was his first collegiate goal.

Just over seven minutes later, Conn extended its lead when Will Winship (Andover, Mass.) delivered a beautiful pass from the right face off circle in Trinity territory to a waiting Anthony Quatieri (Peabody, Mass.) who slapped home the one-timer.

But in the second period, the Bantams made their move. Nine minutes in, Trinity forward Riley Prattson scored off an assist from teammate Christian Hayes to cut the Camels' lead in half. Just 16 seconds later, the Bantams found the equalizer when Paul Selleck skated into the Conn defensive zone and fired a wrister that beat goaltender Kellen Beauton (Colchester, Conn.) to his stick side.

All knotted at two, the contest came down to the third period. Following a penalty on the Camels, Trinity took advantage of the power play and scored to make it a 3-2 game. Bantams forward Jax Murray added another goal ten minutes later to increase the lead to two. With time winding down, Trinity scored on an empty-netter to seal the 5-2 victory.

Beauton made 22 saves in his collegiate debut. Mella stopped 24 shots for the Bantams.

Connecticut College (0-2 overall, 0-2 NESCAC) will be back in action on Saturday, November 26 in a non-conference matchup against Manhatanville.
