Men's Ice Hockey Dominates Manhattanville For First Victory Of Season

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and recorded two assists to lead the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team to a dominant 6-1 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday night at Dayton Arena.

The Camels were firing on all cylinders from the onset of the contest, scoring two goals in the opening 3:44. Russo got the hosts on the scoreboard first when the sophomore redirected a slap shot from teammate Steven Ardagna (Roswell, Ga.).

Just 20 seconds later, Brett Moccia (Lake Forest, Ill.) added to the Camels lead off a one-timer from Lukas Uhler (Upland, Calif.).

In the second period, Conn scored a trio of goals starting with the first collegiate score from first year Rocco Testa-Basi (Holland Patent, N.Y.). Uhler and Russo added on to increase the advantage to 5-0 in favor of the Camels.

Jake Hughes (Charlton, Mass.) added the sixth and final goal for the home team to cap off an emphatic first win of the season for Conn.

Manhattanville forward AJ Bella tacked on a goal for the Valiants in the final frame, but it was not nearly enough to overcome the deficit.

Conn goaltender Cam Fernandez (Fairfield, Conn.) stopped 23 shots, while Tyler Roy and Sebastian Woods split time in goal for Manhattanville, recording 16 and 14 saves respectively.

Connecticut College (1-2 overall) will look to build off the momentum of the victory when they return to action on December 3 against Williams.
