NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's swimming and diving team came out on top by a 172-108 final in a dual meet against Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon at Lott Natatorium.
The Camels earned first-place finishes in 12 of 16 events that included wins in both relays.
Justin Finkel (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Matthew Morris (Alexandria, Va.) each picked up a pair of individual wins and chipped in on the relay side.
Kai Listgarten (San Mateo, Calif.) also had a strong afternoon in the diving well, making his first cut for the NCAA Regional Championship in both the one- and three-meter events. The senior now has the rest of the season to duplicate the feat in order to officially qualify for the regional competition.
The Camels opened the meet by taking first and third place in the 200 medley relay. The team of
Mitchell Lockwood (Winchester, Mass.),
Sean Geisler (New Paltz, N.Y.), Finkel and
Julien Legros (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) touched the wall first in a time of 1:34.88, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Matthew Laclef (Bethesda, Md.) kept the momentum on Conn's side by winning the 1,000 free (10:06.02), and Finkel and Morris followed with wins in the 200 free (1:45.00) and 100 back (51.50), respectively. The Camels later ripped off victories in four straight events—
Andrew Bartolomucci (Milford, N.H.) in the 200 fly (1:57.39), Legros in the 50 free (21.43), Finkel in the 100 free (46.70) and Morris in the 200 back (1:53.46)—to seize control.
Conn made it a clean sweep of the freestyle events when
Will Nash (Chatham, N.J.) secured the top spot in the 500 free (4:61.40), with Laclef a close second. The Camels ended the meet strong with a win by Finkel, Morris, Lockwood and Legros in the 200 free relay (1:26.05).
Listagarten posted scores of 304.95 in the one-meter and 312.37 in the three-meter, well above the NCAA cut of 275 and 285, respectively.
Conn College returns to the pool at Grinnell College on January 9.
