WBB Drops Opener at Basketball Destinations Classic

NAPLES, Fla. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a 50-40 decision to John Carroll University on Wednesday night in the Basketball Destinations Classic.

Following a 16-day layoff for exams and the holidays, the Camels shot 30 percent in their first game action since December 12. Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) paced Conn with eight points, six rebounds and three steals, and Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) added seven points and seven boards.

John Carroll led 22-17 at halftime and outscored Conn 18-7 in the third quarter to build a double-digit lead. The Camels battled back in the fourth quarter but couldn't make up the deficit.

The Blue Streaks finished the game with a commanding 54-29 edge on the glass and pulled down 21 offensive rebounds, resulting in a 22-5 advantage in second-chance points. Jaylen Hoffmann led all scorers with 11 points.

Conn College (3-7 overall) continues play at the Basketball Destinations Classic on Thursday, December 29 at 1:00 p.m. against Maine Maritime Academy.
