Men's Hockey Ties With NESCAC Foe Tufts

NEW LONDON, Conn. - After an overtime period, the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team and Tufts concluded a NESCAC matchup with a 2-2 tie on Saturday evening at Dayton Arena. Paul Capozzi (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Steven Senese (Niagra Falls, N.Y.) scored the two goals for the home team.

The first period was relatively quietly, with Connecticut College being assessed the period's lone penalty, which they successfully killed off. In the final few moments of the period, Capozzi and Seth Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) passed back-and-forth to each other to set up a threatening break into the Tufts zone, but were unable to score, and the period would end at 0-0.

The second period was much of the same, with neither team finding the back of the net. Connecticut College dominated offensive possession time and opportunities, leading in total shots 41-22. Tufts continuously struggled to break the puck out of their zone, and despite the Camels' persistent attack, Tufts goaltender Peyton Durand stood strong, with 31 saves through the first two periods.

The Camels came out of the gates for the third period and scored two unanswered goals early on. The first one came on a connection from Anthony Quatieri (Peabody, Mass.) with a successful pass to Capozzi who found the back of the net for the game's first goal. Less than two minutes later, Senese would score, hammering home a rebound in traffic in front of the opponent's net to put the Camels up 2-0.

Tufts would get one back, however, when Harrison Bazianos ripped a turnaround shot from center ice in Connecticut College's zone past the blocker of goaltender Sean Dynan (Reading, Mass.), tightening the score at 2-1.

With just under five minutes left in the game, Tufts tied the game when Andrew Maynard received a pass in the Camels' crease and was able to force it in. The tie would hold and the game would head to overtime.

Neither team could capitalize on offensive opportunities, and the game would conclude in a 2-2 tie.

Dynan made 28 saves for the Camels. Durand registered an incredible 39 stops for the Jumbos.

Connecticut College will next face off against Amherst at Dayton Arena on Friday at 7 p.m.
