Women's Lacrosse Falls On The Road To Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Connecticut College Camels women's lacrosse team lost a conference contest to the Colby Mules in an 19-8 decision on a windy Saturday afternoon at Bill Alfond Field.

Though the Camels never quit, the Mules scored their first goal off a penalty just 40 seconds into the game and never looked back. Following two more Colby goals in the first quarter, Conn trailed 3-0 after 15 minutes of play. It wasn't until the start of the second quarter that the Camels seemed to start clicking, netting two goals in five minutes by freshman Greta Panke (Milldale, Conn.) and senior Kelly Wolin (Sudbury, Mass.).

Despite three goals in the second frame, the Mules outscored the Camels by adding seven to widen their lead. The rest of the game was much of the same as Colby controlled the ball, and utilized a formidable offensive attack for a total of 19 goals. Connecticut College was able to score five more goals in the third and fourth quarter, but it was not nearly enough to mount a come back.

Connecticut College (5-4, NESCAC 0-4) was led by freshman Aine Downey (Brookline, Mass.) with four goals and one assist, and two goals from Julianna Ingrassia (Garden City, N.Y.). Sophomore goalie Violette Nidds (Ridgewood, N.J.) took the loss with 13 saves.

Colby (7-1, NESCAC 4-0) had 10 players score, including five goals from Ally Franz and a hat trick from Annie Eddy. Emily Podgorni played the first three quarters in goal, tallying four saves, while Sarah Hearns finished the game, recording three saves.

The Camels will be back in action on Wednesday, April 6 at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
