BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Connecticut College women's lacrosse team dropped a NESCAC matchup on the road to Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The No. 16 ranked Polar Bears overwhelmed the Camels offensively for a 19-5 victory.
Despite first quarter goals from freshman
Aine Downey (Brookline, Mass.) and
Emily Yorns (Longmeadow, Mass.), the Camels could never get going offensively and committed 11 turnovers in the opening frame, resulting in a 6-2 Bowdoin lead after one.
The second quarter was much of the same with the Polar Bears controlling the game on the offensive end. The home team outshot the visitors 13-5 in the second stanza and increased their lead to 12-3 at halftime.
Kelly Wolin (Sudbury, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the quarter for the Camels down a player, off an assist from teammate
Hailey Fahey (Norwich, Vt.).
The Connecticut College defense tightened in the third quarter, only allowing eight shots, but Bowdoin still found the back of the net four times to widen its lead. Downey added her second goal with just under seven minutes left in the quarter to cut into the lead.
Classmate
Greta Panke (Milldale, Conn.) opened up the fourth with a goal off an assist from
Abigail Gleeson-Feldman (Nanuet, N.Y.), but the Polar Bears responded with an additional four goals to end the contest with a 19-5 decision.
One bright spot for the Camels was the goaltending play of
Violette Nidds (Ridgewood, N.J.). Despite the goal total, Nidds made a season-high 17 saves against a nationally-ranked squad.
Connecticut College (6-8, 1-8 NESCAC) will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, April 27 at home against Wesleyan.
