Men's Lacrosse Falls To #7 Bowdoin On Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team dropped a conference game against the No. 7 ranked Bowdoin Polar Bears 16-24 on Senior Day at Silfen Field.

The first quarter was off to a rocket start with senior Nick Farnham (Falmouth, Maine) scoring the first goal less than a minute into the game. Bowdoin matched the goal a few minutes later, but junior Gus Mazzocca (West Hartford, Conn.) retaliated quickly with a goal of his own. The two teams traded goals the remainder of the quarter with Farnham and Mazzocca scoring a second goal each, as well as junior Jared Rainville (Watertown, Conn.), freshman Colter Lingelbach-Pierce (Etna, N.H.), and freshman JJ Ford (Clinton, Conn.) each adding a goal of their own. The Camels led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.

While Camels were able to keep pace with the undefeated Polar Bears in the first quarter, the second quarter was a different story. Bowdoin scored five unanswered goals before senior Henry Norris (Falmouth, Maine) scored his first goal of his career, ending the Polar Bear's streak. Ford followed up less than a minute later with his second goal, but it was the Polar Bears who finished the quarter with 3 goals in the last 2 minutes of the quarter, taking the momentum into halftime.

Bowdoin kept the momentum going in the third quarter. The Polar Bears scored five more goals to raise their score to 19, while Conn only added 2 goals from Farnham and Rainville. The quarter ended 11-19 and the future looked bleak, but the Camels didn't quit. A fourth-quarter blitz with goals from Rainville, sophomore Jack Tenzer (Charlotte, N.C.), Farnham, Ford, and Mazzocca brought the Camels back into the game, but the Polar Bears had an offensive rush of their own, scoring an additonal five goals in the 4th quarter to win the game 24-16.

Connecticut College (5-7, NESCAC 3-6) was led by Farnham with four goals, and hat tricks from Ford, Rainville, and Mazzocca. Off the score sheet, sophomore Reese Hornstein (Wayland, Mass.) led the Camels' defensive effort with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while junior Jack Venturelli (Duxbury, Mass.) added three ground balls and two caused turnovers and senior Brendan Trovato (Sudbury, Mass.) scooped up three ground balls of his own. Sophomore goalie Will Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) recorded the loss with 11 saves.

The Camels will be back in action on Wednesday, April 27 against Wesleyan University in the final regular-season matchup of the season.
