Women's Ice Hockey Falls In Non-Conference Matchup Against Cortland

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team dropped a non-conference matchup 4-0 to Cortland on Tuesday night at Dayton Arena.

Forward Grace Schnorr scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Red Dragons past the Camels, who now sit on a three-game losing streak. Cortland (13-4 overall) has won nine of its last 10 contests.

The scoreless first period resulted in an offensive stalemate between the two teams. Defense was on display as the Camels landed six shots on goal, while only allowing three.

The Red Dragons struck first on the scoreboard at the 4:58 mark of the second period. On the counter-attack, Schnorr skated past the blue line into the Conn defensive zone and fired a perfectly placed wrist shot into the top right corner of the net to give Cortland the 1-0 lead.

Later in the period, Schnorr and the Red Dragons had a chance to extend the lead, but Camels goaltender Eun-Bee Huh (Seoul, South Korea) made an incredible save. On the breakaway, Schnorr had a wide-open, point-blank attempt on Huh, but the Conn first year remained composed and stopped the near-post shot with her blocker to hold the deficit.

But Cortland would get its second goal of the game with less than one minute left in the period. Following several shot attempts directed towards Huh and a scrum in front of the net, Schnorr was able to get the final stick on the puck, knocking it in for her second score off the rebound.

In the third period, the Red Dragons quickly added a pair of goals off the sticks of Ainsley Delacourt and Mia Hlasnick and held off Conn's offensive attack to seal the 4-0 victory on the road.

Red Dragons goaltender Molly Goergen earned the victory and the shutout, stopping 15 shots between the pipes. Huh and Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) split time in goal for Conn, making a combined 11 saves.

Despite the outcome, the Camels matched the Red Dragons in shots on goal with 15. Conn also won the vast majority of face-offs, victorious in 72 percent.

Connecticut College (8-7 overall) returns to action on Friday, January 27 at home against No. 6 Middlebury.
