MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – In its final tune-up before the NESCAC Championship, the Connecticut College men's swimming and diving team picked up a 183.5-106.5 victory over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Webster Family Natatorium.
The Camels, who are ranked 16th in the country in the latest CSCAA Top 25 Poll, won 12 out of 16 events in the meet.
Justin Finkel (Cheshire, Conn.) led the way with individual wins in the 100 free (47.69), 100 fly (51.53) and 200 fly (1:52.10) and also swam on the winning 200 free relay squad.
Conn got off to a strong start, opening the meet with wins in first two events. The team of
Mitchell Lockwood (Winchester, Mass.),
Sean Geisler (New Paltz, N.Y.),
Tadeusz Trzewik-Quinn (New Paltz, N.Y.) and
Julien Legros (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) touched the wall first in the 200 medley relay (1:34.82), and
Matthew Laclef (Bethesda, Md.) recorded the fastest time in the 1,000 free (9:45.10).
Conn dominated the swimming portion of the meet, posting wins in all but two races.
Matthew Morris (Alexandria, Va.) took the top spot in the 100 back (52.62) while Geisler added a win in the 100 breast (1:00.22). Legros and Lockwood—in addition to powering both relay teams—clocked in with the fastest times in the 50 free (21.17) and 200 back (1:54.27), respectively.
Laclef picked up his second win of the day in the 500 free (4:45.70), and
Marc Stern (Chappaqua, N.Y.) rounded out the individual winners with the top performance in the 200 IM (1:59.12). The Camels capped the meet with a win in the 200 free relay (1:25.23) courtesy of Geisler, Finkel, Lockwood and Legros.
Conn College will next compete at the NESCAC Championship on February 16-19.
