NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team split a doubleheader in its fall debut on Sunday, falling 6-1 to Nichols College in the morning before beating Springfield College 6-3 in the afternoon.
In the match against Springfield, the Camels captured two of the three doubles points to take an early advantage. The duo of
Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) and
Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) won by an 8-6 final at the top spot, and
Teagan O'Hara (Woodstock, Conn.) and
Maya Kowalska (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) won by the same margin at No. 3.
Conn went on to secure the team victory by taking four of the six singles matches. Kerachsky cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot, and Kowalska and
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) also picked up wins in straight sets at No. 3 and 4, respectively. After splitting sets,
Ella Griffiths (Concord, Mass.) won her match at No. 5 in a 10-point tiebreaker.
Earlier in the day, Bhat was the only Conn player to record a win in the match against Nichols. She powered to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, giving her a pair of singles wins on the day.
