NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College field hockey team fell by a 6-0 final against No. 1 Middlebury College on Sunday afternoon in NESCAC action at Silfen Field.
The Panthers extended their winning streak to 22 games and improved to 13-0 (8-0 NESCAC) on the year. Katie George and Amy Griffin each scored a pair of goals, and the latter also added an assist to her stat line.
Middlebury got off to a quick start, as George scored just 1:05 into the game off a feed from Sadie LeStage. It was the first of three goals in the period for the Panthers, who also got tallies from Griffin and Audrey Lazar that were 51 seconds apart.
George tacked on her second goal in the second quarter to give the visitors a 4-0 lead at the half.
Kendall Arnold (Pawling, N.Y.) supplied Conn's only shot on goal in the period, but Middlebury's KK Newtown turned it away.
In the third quarter, Madaket Rzepka finished off a blocked shot in front of the goal to make it 5-0. Griffin later supplied the final tally off a feed from Lilly Thieberg to complete the scoring.
Liz Winemaster (Lake Forest, Ill.) got the starting nod in goal for the Camels and made four saves in the first half, and
Sophie Moniz (Alexandria, Va.) and
Bea Talbott (St. Louis, Mo.) each saw their first action of the season in the second. Moniz made two saves in the third quarter while Talbott stopped three shots in the fourth.
Tatum Courtmanche (Madison, Conn.) also recorded a defensive save in the second half to keep the Panthers from another goal.
Conn (4-8 overall, 1-7 NESCAC) will play its home finale against Roger Williams University on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m.
