NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Mitchell College on Tuesday night in non-conference play at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) posted nine kills and 11 digs to lead the Camels, who won by set scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-8 and improved to 11-10 on the year.
Rae Wartelle (Tacoma, Wash.) chipped in eight kills and five blocks while
Emma Wheeler (Meredith, N.H.) finished with seven kills and five blocks.
A 6-0 run fueled the Camels to an 8-2 lead in the opening set, led by four kills from Wartelle. Wheeler and Lord were also impressive at the net, teaming up to provided three blocks.
The Mariners led 10-4 in the second set before Conn came roaring back, winning nine of the next 12 points to even the score at 13-13. The Camels later pulled in front for good behind a kill from Lord, who supplied three of her team's final six kills in the frame.
Conn took control right from the start in the finale, pushing out to a 12-3 lead while hitting .500 in the set. The Camels didn't commit an attack error in the third and finished with only six on the night, compared to 24 for the hosts.
Natasha Shrivastava (San Diego, Calif.) finished with 19 assists and six digs on the night, and
Caroline Festersen (Omaha, Neb.) supplied on a match-high 17 digs. Bliss Brown paced the Mariners (7-15 overall) with a match-high 12 kills.
Conn College will play its final NESCAC match of the season at Tufts University on Friday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m.
