WEST POINT, N.Y. – Connecticut College dropped a 59-34 decision to Army on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference women's basketball matchup at Christl Arena.
The Camels outscored the Black Knights in the opening quarter but couldn't sustain the momentum.
Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) led Conn with 13 points and four blocks while
Addi Hunter (St. George, Vt.) and
Hayle Thompson (Maynard, Mass.) added eight rebounds apiece.
Kya Smith paced Army (2-4 overall) with a game-high 18 points and Lauren Lithgow chipped in 10.
Conn limited Army to just 5-for-16 shooting in a first quarter that saw four lead changes. A bucket by Hunter gave the Camels their first lead with 2:53 left in the period, and just over a minute later a three-pointer by
Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C.) gave the visitors a 12-10 advantage heading into the second.
Army opened the second quarter with a 12-2 run and never trailed again. The Black Knights outscored the Camels 21-8 in the stanza and led 31-20 at the break. Smith led all scorers with seven points at intermission.
The Black Knights led by as many as 20 in the third quarter and 27 in the fourth. Smith added 11 points and shot 5-for-5 from the line in the second half to lead the way.
Conn shot just 30 percent for the game and went 3-for-16 from long range. Army, which shot 33 percent from the floor, benefited from a 23-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
Conn (0-4 overall) will next travel to Eastern Connecticut State University on Sunday, November 26 at 3:00 p.m.
