ROCK ISLAND, Ill.. - The Connecticut College men's water polo team wrapped up their time in Illinois, falling to Augustana 27-6, before dropping a 15-5 decision against Austin. With the two losses, Conn falls to 2-15 on the year.
GAME ONE: AUGUSTANA 27, CONN 6
In game one, Augustana jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, before Grant Archer (Miami, Fla.) got Conn (2-15) on the board. The Auggies responded with four straight goals, before a late tally from Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) had the Camels trailing 9-2 after one. Augustana opened the second quarter with five straight markers, pushing the advantage to 14-2. Late in the half, Ethan Hipsky (Glastonbury, Conn.) got one back for the Camels, as they trailed 14-3 at the break.
The Auggies opened the second half with four straight goals, extending the lead to 18-3. Archer picked up his second goal of the contest to cut the deficit to 18-4, but Augustana tallied the next two goals to lead 20-4. Early in the fourth quarter, Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) notched back-to-back markers, cutting the lead to 20-6, but Augustana scored the last seven goals of the match to come away with the 27-6 win.
GAME TWO: AUSTIN 15, CONN 5
In game two, Austin opened the contest, tallying the first six goals, to jump out to a 6-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Conn finally got on the board with four minutes to play in the half, on a goal by Siaki Nelson (Montgomery, Texas). The Kangaroos added a goal late in the half to lead 7-1 at the break.
Austin tallied two goals early in the third quarter to push the lead to 9-1, before two straight markers from Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) cut into the deficit. Each team tallied one more goal each in the quarter, with the Camels goal coming from Stevens, as Austin led 10-4 heading to the fourth. The Kangaroos opened the final frame with three straight goals, before Archer picked up the final tally for Conn. Two late goals for Austin, gave the Kangaroos the 15-5 victory.
Conn returns home to host Division 1 Iona on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. in Lott Natatorium.
