Women's S&D Finishes Runner-Up at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's and women's swimming and diving teams each finished second at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Swim Championships, which was hosted by Wesleyan University on Friday and Saturday at the Webster Family Natatorium.

On the men's side, the Camels placed a close second to Coast Guard Academy in the seven-team field. The Bears finished the event with 1,031 points, with Conn as the only team within striking distance with 951 points. On the women's side, it was Trinity College (892) that edged Conn (888) by only four points.

The Camels finished with a combined 11 first-place finishes on the weekend, second to only Coast Guard. The men's team accounted for seven of those wins, with Justin Finkel (Cheshire, Conn.) taking first place in four events.

Finkel was a one-man wrecking crew, besting all challengers in the 50 free (20.81), 100 free (45.35), 100 fly (49.29) and 200 fly (1:49.06). He also finished as runner-up in the 500 free (4:37.01) and 200 free (1:40.99).

For the second meet in a row, Cam Bizjak (Willoughby, Ohio) won both the 1M (239.45) and 3M (196.60) diving competitions. The Camels also had the top three finishers in the 100 back, with Matthew Morris (Alexandria, Va.) finishing ahead of teammates Matthew Laclef (Bethesda, Md.) and Tyler Choedak (Austin, Texas).

Keira Haas (Berwyn, Pa.) paced the women's squad with a pair of wins. She edged teammate Rosemary Bonadies (Nashville, Tenn.) by one-hundredth of a second in the 100 back (58.54) and also took first in the 100 free (52.83). 

Jenna Charlat (Bedford, N.H.) picked up Conn's only other individual win in the 200 back (2:07.51). The Camels wrapped up the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, but Trinity placed second to secure the team victory.

Conn will next host a tri-match with Trinity and Roger Williams University on Saturday, December 9 at 1:00 p.m.
