NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's swimming and diving team earned a pair of wins in a tri-meet with Trinity College and Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon at Lott Natatorium.
The Camels, who picked up their first head-to-head wins of the season, topped the Bantams by a score of 179-115 and beat the Hawks by a 223-57 final. Conn took first place in nine events on the day, with six swimmers posting individual wins.
Rosemary Bonadies (Nashville, Tenn.) set the tone with a pair of victories and also contributed to one of two relay wins for the Camels.
Kate Edison (Westford, Mass.),
Stephanie Shawaryn (Moorestown, N.J.),
Jada Keen (Kealakekua, Hawaii),
Keira Haas (Berwyn, Pa.) and
Hope Lane (Swarthmore, Pa.) also picked up individual wins on the day.
Conn got off to a strong start, opening the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of Bonadies,
Ella Behling (Brookfield, Conn.), Haas and
Kailin Fuller (Bowdoinham, Maine) turned in a time of 1:49.97 to narrowly beat out Trinity.
Shawaryn kept the momentum with the Camels by winning the 1,000 free (11:03.25) by nearly eight seconds. Edison then edged Lane in the 200 free (1:59.33), and Bonadies was the first of three Conn finishers in the 100 back (59.49) ahead of Haas and
Jenna Charlat (Bedford, N.H.).
Later in the meet, it was another one-two finish for the Camels in the 200 fly. Keen got to the wall first in a time of 24.92, besting Fuller by less than two-tenths of a second. It was the same in the 100 free, where Haas's time of 54.69 was enough to hold off Shawaryn.
Bonadies nabbed her second win in the 200 back (2:08.99) ahead of Charlat. The Camels had the top three in the 100 free, with Haas clocking in at 54.69 to edge Shawaryn and Lane. Lane then topped teammate
Kate Doucette (State College, Pa.) to claim Conn's final individual win in the 500 free (5:24.85).
The Camels wrapped up the meet with another relay win. The 400 free relay team of Lane, Shawaryn, Edison and Haas cruised to a time of 3:40.44 and bested runner-up Trinity by more than three seconds.
Conn will next compete against Grinnell College on Saturday, January 6 in Naples, FL.
