NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon at Luce Field House.
The Camels got off to a promising start by winning two of three doubles matches. However, the Continentals rebounded to take five of six singles contests, and in the process picked up their first win of the season.
Conn's top doubles team of
Aaron Fleishman (Brookline, Mass.) and
Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) set the tone with an 8-6 victory at the No. 1 spot. The other two doubles matches finished in 8-4 finals, with
Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) and
James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.) picking up Conn's other win at the No. 3 position.
Mulligan carried that momentum into his singles match, where he won a pair of tiebreakers to defeat Nicolas Gritz in straight sets (7-6, 7-6) at the No. 5 spot. He raced to a 7-1 win in the first-set tiebreaker before triumphing 7-4 in the second.
Conn College (1-2 overall, 0-2 NESCAC) will next head south for a spring trip that includes three matches in Orlando, Fla.
