ORLANDO, Fla. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team won for the second time in as many days, knocking off SUNY New Paltz by a 6-3 final on Wednesday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
The Camels built an early 3-0 advantage by winning all three doubles matches. Conn then went on to pick up three more points in singles action, improving to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 on its spring trip.
All three doubles matches were close, as the Camels picked up 8-7 wins at No. 1 and 3 while prevailing 8-6 at No. 2.
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) and
Anna Slopak (Taftville, Conn.) teamed up for the first time this season and grabbed the win at the top spot.
Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) and
Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) won for the second straight day at No. 2, and
Kinley Yangden (Thimphu, Butan) and
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) made it a clean sweep at No. 3.
Cass also picked up a win at No. 1 singles, dropping only one game in two sets against Justine Stanejko. Kerachsky and
Ella Griffiths (Concord, Mass.) each bounced back from first-set losses to win in third-set tiebreakers at No. 4 and 6, respectively. The wins were the third of the season for both Cass and Kerachsky, and the first for Griffiths.
Conn College will next face SUNY Oneonta on Thursday, March 16 at 12:30 p.m.
