NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team picked up its third-straight win on Wednesday afternoon, cruising past Emerson College by an 8-1 final at the CC Tennis Courts.
The Camels won in dominant fashion, taking all three doubles points to start the match before wrapping things up with five singles victories. Five Conn players earned wins in both singles and doubles on the day.
The No. 1 doubles match was the only one that was close, as Conn's
Jules Taylor-Kerman (New York, N.Y.) and
Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) bested the duo of Ryu Watanabe and Jeff Yu by an 8-5 final. The Camels breezed past the Lions at Nos. 2 and 3, with
Walker Mulligan (Guilford, Conn.) and
James Serhant III (Hadley, Mass.) posting their sixth straight win, while
Krishh Tipnis (Thane, India) and
Andy Feldman (Newton, Mass.) didn't even surrender a game.
Only the top two matches in singles play were competitive. Taylor-Kerman dropped his first set but bounced back in the second, forcing a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match. He came up on the short end of the tiebreaker, falling 10-7 to Watanabe.
Serhant prevailed in straight sets against Pete Seyikul but was tested throughout. After winning 7-5 in the first set, he won a second-set tiebreaker by a 7-2 final to sew up his victory.
Conn's wins at the bottom four spots were all runaway, with no one dropping more than two games in a set. Mulligan and Anderson each won by 6-2, 6-2 finals, and Tipnis came out on top by a 6-1, 6-2 tally. Feldman rounded out the group with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Conn College (4-4 overall) will next play at Coast Guard Academy on Thursday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m.
