MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to sixth-ranked Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Recreation Center.
The Panthers swept the three doubles matches before winning all but one singles contest in straight sets. Middlebury improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in NESCAC play.
The tightest match of the day came at No. 1 singles, where
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) battled Middlebury's Amy Delman in a three-set showdown. Cass won only one game in the opening set but rebounded to take the second by a 6-3 tally.
In the third and deciding set, Delman got out to a 2-0 lead before Cass rallied back to even things up. Delman then broke serve twice en route to a 5-2 advantage, leaving the 10th-ranked player in the region within a game of the win. Cass broke back and then held serve to pull within 5-4, but couldn't get the second break to extend the match.
Conn College (7-4 overall, 0-4 NESCAC) will next play at Williams College on Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m.
