LEWISTON, Maine – The Connecticut College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 38 Bates College on Saturday afternoon in a NESCAC showdown at the Wallach Tennis Center.
The Camels got off to a solid start by taking two of three doubles points to start the day. However, Bates rallied back to win five of the six singles matches to secure the team victory. The Bobcats improved to 5-10 overall and 1-8 in league action.
Conn's top doubles squads pulled out victories in dramatic fashion.
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) and
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) fell into a 4-0 hole before rallying to win four straight games en route to an 8-7 triumph at No. 1. The story was similar at No. 2, where
Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) and
Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) trailed 5-1 before ripping off seven straight games to win 8-5.
Kerachsky also secured Conn's lone singles point, besting Laura Littlefield in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 3 position. She trailed 5-1 in the second set but fought back to win six straight games, evening the match at a set apiece. In lieu of a traditional third set, the two played a 10-point tiebreaker that saw Kerachsky come out on top by a 10-7 tally.
Conn College (7-7 overall, 0-7 NESCAC) will next play at Tufts University on Sunday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m.
