NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 27 Colby College on Saturday morning at the Conn Tennis Courts.
Colby began the day by taking all three doubles matches, but not without a fight from the Camels.
Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) and
Sana Bhat (New Delhi) gave the northeast's top-ranked doubles squad some trouble, but in the end it was Sam Riordan and Sydney Landau who pulled out the 8-5 win.
Things were even closer at the No. 2 doubles spot, where the battle between Conn's
Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) and
Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) and Colby's Isabella Suk and Caleigh McClain went to a tiebreaker. The Mules prevailed 8-6 in the tiebreaker to win by an 8-7 final.
Cass and Riordan also slugged it out in a highly-competitive singles match at the top spot. Riordan, who entered the match as the fourth-ranked singles player in the region, took the opening set by a 7-5 final. Cass then pushed Riordan to a tiebreaker in the second set, which the Colby junior ultimately won by a 7-6 (7-4) final.
Conn College (7-9 overall, 0-9 NESCAC) will wrap up the regular season against Bowdoin College on Sunday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m.
