Men's Soccer Earns 0-0 Draw at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Connecticut College men's soccer team opened a three-game road trip against Bowdoin College, as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw on Sunday from Brunswick, Maine. With the draw, Conn moves to 2-0-2 overall and 0-0-2 in conference play, while Bowdoin moves to 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in NESCAC action.

It was a back-and-forth opening 45 minutes, as neither side was able to break through for the opening goal. Conn (2-0-2, 0-0-2) recorded the first two shots of the contest, as Samuel Brockelman (Topsfield, Mass.) forced a save in the 12th minute, before Gavin Vanden Berg's (Lake Forest Park, Wash.) 25th minute effort went wide. Bowdoin (3-0-1, 1-0-1) responded with their first two looks at the goal, forcing two saves from Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda). Sam Boehm (Lexington, Mass.) had the last chance before the half, but his shot went high, as the team remained scoreless at the break.

Conn forced an early save in the second half on a shot from Brockelman, before Ronaldo Cabral of Bowdoin put an effort wide. In the 56th minute, Nate Pilson put in an effort that required the Polar Bears goalkeeper Alex Ainsworth to make a save. With just over 24 minutes remaining Silvester collected a save off a shot from Luke Macaione to keep the game scoreless. Maurice Pigola (Gorlitz, Germany) had the last shot of the contest, but his effort went wide, as the squads settled for the scoreless draw.

Conn held a slight edge on total shots, outshooting the Polar Bears 10-7, along with a narrow 4-3 advantage on shots on goal, and a 3-1 lead on corner kicks.

Silvester tallied all 90 minutes between the sticks and recorded three saves in the draw, earning a clean sheet. Brockelman and Matt Scoffone (Thornton, Pa.) paced the Camels attack recording two shots apiece, while six others added one shot.

Ainsworth made four saves in goal for the Polar Bears, keeping the clean sheet. Julian Juantorena and Mateo Pacelli both notched two shots to lead the Bowdoin attack.

The Camels continue their road trip, as Conn makes the short trip to Hartford, Conn. to take on Trinity in a NESCAC matchup on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
