HARTFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's soccer team used two late goals to defeat host Trinity College 2-1 on Wednesday night. With the win, Conn improves to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play, while Trinity falls to 1-2-1 overall and 0-2-1 in NESCAC action.
It was a back-and-forth opening 15 minutes, as Conn had the first look at goal, as
Rye Jaran's (Downingtown, Pa.) effort towards the far post went just wide at 13:57. Just under a minute later, however, Trinity opened the scoring as Kieran McCabe put the Bantams in front at 14:43. Conn had a good look at tying the game just before the half, but
Nate Pilson's (Wilmington, Del.) shot forced a fantastic save from Nate Dyott, as Trinity led 1-0 at the break.
The Camels had a good chance to tie the game early in the second half, but
Matt Scoffone's (Thornton, Pa.) shot just missed the far post, and another great save from Dyott denied an attempt from
Jake Creus (Rye, N.Y.). With 26 minutes remaining, it looked like the Camels finally found an equalizer as Jaran was able to get around Dyott, but his shot at the open goal rolled across the front of goal and stayed out.
Conn finally netted the equalizer with just over 10 minutes remaining as a Camel corner kick found its way to
Jack Kelesoglu (Westfield, N.J.), who was able to slot it home past Dyott to tie the game at one. With just under five minutes to play, the Camels were given a spot kick with a chance to take the lead. Scoffone stepped up and buried it into the bottom corner to put Conn up 2-1 with 4:56 to play.
Conn dominated statistically, outshooting Trinity 25-11 overall, including 12-4 on shots on goal, while also holding a 5-1 edge on corner kicks.
Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda) got the start in goal, making two saves and picking up the win. Kelesoglu and Scoffone paced the offense, as both recorded a goal, while Jaran recorded eight shots, with two on target.
Dyott was fantastic in goal for Trinity, making 10 saves in his collegiate debut, while picking up the loss. Offensively, McCabe tallied the lone goal, while James Donaldson notched three shots, with two on target.
The Camels wrap up their road trip against No.15 Babson College in Babson Park, Mass. on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
