Men's Hockey Earns 4-4 Tie With #12 Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – Devan Newhook's (St. John's, Newfoundland) goal with 2:27 left in regulation, earned the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team a hard fought 4-4 tie with No. 12 ranked Endicott College on Tuesday night from Raymond J. Bourque Arena.. With the tie, Conn moves to 3-5-1 on the year, while Endicott moves to 7-3-4.

Endicott (7-3-4) fired off the first shot of the contest just over a minute in, forcing an early save from Will McEvoy (Ottawa, Ontario). Conn (3-5-1) responded with the next two shots, but John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) and Sean Detloff (Harrison Township, Mich.) had their shots turned aside. Midway through the period, the Camels got the first power play of the game, but were unable to beat Endicott's Ryan Wilson, as the game was scoreless after one.

The second period saw both offenses come to life. Conn opened the scoring at 2:10, when Jon Barker (North Kingstown, R.I.) tallied his first career goal, with assists from Jack Luca (Milton, Mass.) and Shane Zarcone (Huntington, N.Y.) putting Conn up 1-0. 43 seconds later, the Gulls tied the game at one on a power play marker from Zach Mazur. Conn retook the lead at 7:43 behind a goal from Rocco Testa-Basi (Holland Patent, N.Y.), with assists from Logan Cleary (Mentor, Ohio) and Detloff.

Once again Endicott responded quickly, this time 28 seconds later, as Jack Ring beat McEvoy tying the game at two. With six minutes remaining in the middle stanza, Michael DiMascolo (Cranston, R.I.) put Conn back in front, 3-2. With time running down in the period, James Davenport found the back of the net, with 21 seconds left, as the teams headed to the third tied at three.

Endicott came out strong in the third period, looking to take their first lead of the night. With just under nine minutes to play, the Gulls got their lead, as Jackson Sterrett's shot from high in the slot deflected off the post and past McEvoy to put Endicott up 4-3. With 2:27 remaining, Russo won an offensive zone face-off back to Newhook, who wristed a shot from the point that beat Wilson, tying the game at four. Time ran out in regulation, as the teams headed to overtime.

In the extra session, Endicott had an early chance to win it, McEvoy came up with a big save to keep it tied. Conn then had two chances to win it, but Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.)  was unable to beat Wilson. Neither side found a winner down the stretch, as the teams settled for the 4-4 tie.
