Luca and Stadheim Score as Men's Hockey Hands No. 10 Trinity First NESCAC Loss

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team used two second period goals, to take down No. 10 Trinity College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon from Koeppel Community Sports Center. With the win, Conn improvess to 6-7-2 overall and 4-6-0 in NESCAC play, while Trinity falls to 12-3-1 on the year and 8-1-1 in conference action

Conn (6-7-2, 4-6-0 NESCAC) started quickly firing off the first shot of the contest, but the effort was turned aside. Trinity (12-3-1, 8-1-1 NESCAC) responded with the next two shots, but Sean Dynan (Reading, Mass.) was ready. However, it was the Bantams that opened the scoring just past the midway point. At 11:34, Devan Tongue beat Dynan to put Trinity up 1-0, a lead they took into the first intermission.

The Camels responded in the middle frame, starting fast. Just 4:35 into the period Seth Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) tied the game at one, with Cole Eichler (King, Ontario) picking up the assist. Just two and a half minutes later, Conn jumped in front off a tally from Jack Luca (Milton, Mass.). Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) and Shane Zarcone (Huntington, N.Y.) earned the assists, as the Camels led 2-1 at 7:05. Conn continued their strong play, taking the 2-1 lead into the third.

The Camels and Bantams traded chances early in the final period, but Conn remained in front 2-1. With time winding down, Trinity was awarded two power plays, gaining a 5-on-3 advantage. On the ensuing power play for the Bantams Dynan came up with five crucial stops to keep the lead intact. Trinity pulled the goalie for an extra attacker but the Camels limited any chances in the final minute to come away with the crucial 2-1 win.

Trinity outshot Conn 26-21, while winning 30 of 54 face-offs.

Dynan was strong in net, finishing with 25 saves, including 20 over the final two periods. Five Camels tallied one point, as Luca and Stadheim both recorded a goal, while Eichler, Kennedy, and Zarcone all added an assist. Stadheim and John Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) both won eight face-offs, while the Camels went 3-3 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play.

Devon Bobak got the start, making 19 saves. Tongue tallied the lone goal, while Spencer Korona and Richard Boysen both added an assist. Trinity finished 0-3 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.

Conn finally returns home for the first time since Dec. 9, as the Camels host Middlebury College on Friday night in Dayton Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
