Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Suffers Heartbreaking 2-1 Overtime Loss to Middlebury

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team dropped a heartbreaker, falling to visiting Middlebury College 2-1 in overtime on Friday night from Dayton Arena. With the loss, Conn falls to 6-8-2 overall and 4-7-0 in NESCAC play, while Middlebury improves to 5-8-4 overall and 3-5-3 in conference action

Conn (6-8-2, 4-7-0 NESCAC) started quickly firing off the first three shots of the contest, but Middlebury (5-8-4, 3-5-3 NESCAC) goalie Jake Horoho was sharp. The Panthers responded with the next three shots themselves, but likewise, Conn goaltender Sean Dynan (Reading, Mass.) was ready. The Camels held the run of play for the rest of the period, but neither side found the net as the game was scoreless after one.

The teams traded opportunities for much of the middle frame, but again both goalies were strong. With the game looking like it was going to be scoreless heading to the third, the Camels finally broke the ice. With just 1:22 remaining in the period, Rocco Testa-Basi (Holland Patent, N.Y.) tipped home Steven Ardagna's (Roswell, Ga.) point shot to put Conn up 1-0, as Cole Eichler (King, Ontario) also added an assist. Conn took the 1-0 advantage into the third period.

The Panthers came out looking to tie the game in the third period. Midway through the frame, Middlebury found the equalizer, as Nolan Moore's shot hit the post and directed in to tie the game at one at 10:08. Both sides pushed for the winning goal in regulation, but came up empty as the game headed to overtime. With just under two minutes gone in the extra session, Andrew Seaman picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, before driving to the net, and beating Dynan to give the Panthers the 2-1 win.

Conn outshot Middlebury 36-19, while winning 31 of 57 draws.

Dynan got the start in goal, finishing with 17 saves on 19 shots. Testa-Basi tallied the lone Camel marker, while Ardagna and Eichler both added an assist. Michael DiMascolo (Cranston, R.I.) and Quinn Kennedy (Silver Spring, Md.) both recorded six shots on goal, while Seth Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) won 14 of 22 face-offs, while going 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-2 on the power play.

Horoho got the nod, finishing with 35 saves. Moore and Seaman both recorded a goal for the Panthers, while Middlebury went 0-2 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.

Conn wraps up the home weekend tomorrow afternoon, as the Camels look for the season sweep of Williams, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
