NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 12 Bates College on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC action at Silfen Field.
The game was scoreless until the Bobcats converted a penalty corner with 6:06 remaining in the contest. After goalie
Liz Winemaster (Lake Forest, Ill.) stopped the original shot, Anna Cote tipped in a pass from Haley Dwight for the lone tally, and Bates made the margin stand to improve to 9-4 overall (5-3 NESCAC).
Conn drew a penalty corner and attempted one shot in the final five minutes but couldn't equalize. Bates goalie Ava Donahue finished with four saves in the shutout.
Conn's defense frustrated Bates for most of the game, limiting quality chances and breaking up penalty corner opportunities. Winemaster played all 60 minutes and made six of her eight saves in the first half.
Prior to the game, the Camels honored their seven seniors—
Sadie AbuHaidar,
Rowan Galanis,
Bridget Mason,
Sophie Moniz,
Abby Ragland,
Chloe Therrien and
Hannah Webster—in a special ceremony.
Conn (6-6 overall, 3-5 NESCAC) will next play at Roger Williams University on Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m.
