Field Hockey Falls at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Connecticut College field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to Roger Williams University on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Bayside Field.

The Hawks (13-5 overall) scored in each half to extend their winning streak to six games. Elizabeth Duquette and Hannah Timbrouck each recorded goals while Jill Haudenshield finished with five saves to record the shutout.

Conn had two good looks at the goal in the first half but couldn't connect. Haudenshield stopped both attempts, denying a shot by Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) in the opening quarter and another by Kellyn Scheel (Palo Alto, Calif.) in the second.

The Hawks scored with 21 seconds remaining in the half to go into the break with a 1-0 lead. Anna Kruggel set up the goal with a long pass into the scoring area, and Duquette tracked the ball down before finishing into the side of the cage from a tough angle.

In the second half, goalie Liz Winemaster (Lake Forest, Ill.) and the Conn defense made several spectacular plays to keep the Camels close. Defender Sadie Gearan (Lynnfield, Mass.) saved a goal in the third quarter with her second defensive save in as many games, and Winemaster turned away a penalty stroke with 8:44 left in the fourth to keep it a one-score game.

The Camels put three shots on goal in the second half, all of which were turned away by Haudenshield. The Hawks added the insurance goal with 2:45 to go, as Timbrouck finished off a cross by Chelsea King to make it 2-0.

Winemaster finished with five saves in the contest.

Conn (6-7 overall) will next play at Williams College on Saturday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
