WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Connecticut College field hockey team fell by a 4-1 final to No. 3 Williams College on Saturday afternoon in a NESCAC clash at Williamson Field.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Camels surrendered three goals in the second period and couldn't make up the deficit against the stingiest defense in the league. Four different Ephs scored as Williams (13-1 overall) remained unbeaten in NESCAC play at 9-0.
Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) put Conn on the scoreboard in the final minutes of the contest, notching her team-leading 11th goal of the season. Goalie
Liz Winemaster (Lake Forest, Ill.) tied her career high with 12 saves in the setback.
Winemaster made a pair of big stops in the opening stanza to keep the Camels even through 15 minutes. The Ephs finally broke through in the second quarter when Anna Miller tallied off a penalty corner, and two minutes later Linda Bibeau scored to make it 2-0. Kiki Higgins added the final score of the half with 5:10 remaining to give Williams a 3-0 cushion at the break.
In the second half, the Ephs made it 4-0 on a goal by Meaghan Boehm early in the fourth quarter. Conn got the goal back later in the period, as an insert by
Serena Moore (Houston, Texas) was drilled to the front of the cage by
Sadie Gearan (Lynnfield, Mass.). McGann got a stick on the ball to tip it through the legs of goalie Ellie Smith, recording just the seventh goal against Williams in 14 games this season.
Conn (6-8 overall, 3-6 NESCAC) will host Wesleyan University in the regular season finale on Tuesday, October 29 at 4:00 p.m.
