WORCESTER, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 victories over WPI and Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon at Harrington Auditorium.
Katherine Randall (Chicago, Ill.) led the Camels with a combined 25 kills over the two matches.
Conn (15-6 overall) will next play at Bowdoin College on Friday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m.
Game 1: Conn 3, WPI 0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-21)
The Camels got out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set—thanks to three kills by
Rae Wartelle (Tacoma, Wash.) and another by
Mila Chan (San Francisco, Calif.)—and never trailed. Conn pushed the margin to as many as 15 before Chan supplied another kill on set point for the 1-0 advantage.
The score was tighter in the second set. Clinging to a 23-22 lead late, Conn got a kill and an ace from Randall to edge the Engineers. In the third set, the Camels used an 11-2 run to seize control, and Randall provided her match-high 14th kill to sew up the victory.
Josie Kelly (Solana Beach, Calif.) paced the offense with 37 assists while
Taylor Merrifield (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the defense with 16 digs.
Game 2: Conn 3, Fitchburg State 0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-19)
A total of 10 Camels combined for 40 kills in the win over the Falcons, led by 11 from Randall.
Evie Lockwood Mullaney (Needham, Mass.) chipped in seven kills while
Riley Lord (Exeter, N.H.) added six.
Conn jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set and led by as many as 13. Wartelle led the attack with four kills as the Camels picked up 13 kills on 31 swings.
Lockwood Mullaney and Lord provided the firepower in the second set, combining for 10 of the team's 12 kills. Randall then took over with seven kills in the third to help close out the match.
Kelly and
Sienna McCormack (Larkspur, Calif.) combined to hand out 34 assists while
Caroline Festersen (Omaha, Neb.) led all players with 11 digs.
