TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Connecticut College men's cross country team finished 30th out of 46 teams at the 2024 NCAA Division III Pre-National Invitational on Friday night at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
The Camels battled some of the top teams in the country, as the field featured eight nationally-ranked programs as well as 14 other regionally-ranked teams. No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer took top team honors with 65 points, edging out No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater with 82. W-W's Gunner Schlender won the 8K race with a time of 24:08.97.
Conn, which checked in with 236 points, had its top-three runners post career-best times.
Ellis Iurilli-Hough (Melrose, Mass.) led the pack and finished 91st overall in 26:02.56.
Deem Quinn (Cranston, R.I.) and
Anthony Belford (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also turned in strong performances, finishing 166th (26:41.84) and 182nd (26:52.78), respectively.
Josh Barzilai (Princeton, N.J.) and
Sam Walker (Newburyport, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Camels. Barzilai crossed the finish in 267th (27:34.98) while Walker was close behind in 282nd (27:43.45).
Harry Harwood (Woodbury, Conn.) and
Zach Stoddard (Pomfret Center, Conn.) filled out Conn's top-7. Harwood placed 303rd (27:57.40) in his season debut while Stoddard took 326th (28:17.63).
Hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, the Pre-National Invitational serves as a preview of the course that will host the 2024 NCAA Division III National Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on November 23. As such, the field for the event is one of the deepest of the season.
Conn will next compete at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m.
