WBB Aces First Road Test at UMass Boston

BOSTON – In its first road test of the season, the Connecticut College women's basketball team powered to a 72-42 victory over UMass Boston on Tuesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center.

Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C) led the charge with a game-high 15 points and added three assists and three steals. Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) tacked on 11 points and six rebounds while Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) chipped in 10 points. Sydney Feeney (North Attleboro, Mass.) contributed nine points in seven minutes off the bench, and Hayle Thompson (Maynard, Mass.) was a force in the paint with nine points, five blocks and four rebounds.

After falling behind 6-0 in the opening minutes, Conn fired back with 13 straight points as Burns and Hunter each keyed the run with a pair of buckets. The Beacons responded with a 9-1 stretch to briefly pull back in front, but the Camels ended the quarter strong on back-to-back threes by Xerras to lead 20-15.

Conn quickly bumped the lead to double digits with a 9-2 run to start the second period. The Camels forced a total of eight turnovers in the quarter and limited the Beacons to just one field goal through the first seven minutes. Xerras added two more threes as the lead grew to as many as 13, and the visitors settled in with a 36-25 lead at intermission.

The Camels blew the game wide open in the third, using another 13-0 run to build the margin to 55-29. In the fourth, Feeney netted all nine of her points in the final 5:24 to cement the victory.

Xerras finished the game 5-for-6 from long range, continuing her torrid start to the young season. Through three games the sophomore sharpshooter is an astounding 12-for-16 from beyond the arc.

Conn (3-0 overall) will next play at Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, November 20 at 5:00 p.m.
