NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night, falling 84-74 against Coast Guard Academy in non-conference action at Roland Gymnasium.
Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) paced Conn with career highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds in the setback.
Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) added 19 points on 7-for-16 shooting, and
Sydney Marshall (Enfield, Conn.) posted a season-high 12 points to round out the Camels in double figures.
Dorothy Stotts netted a game-high 30 points to lead Coast Guard, which improved to 3-1 on the season. Julia Mann added 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Bears shot 43 percent for the game and went 11-for-28 from deep.
A 13-2 burst in the opening 3:49 got Coast Guard off to a fast start. Stotts tallied 12 points in the quarter to help stake the Bears to a 27-18 lead after one.
Donadio got the Camels rolling in the second period, supplying seven points to keep Conn within striking distance. The visitors cut the margin to six late in the half, but a layup at the buzzer by Stotts gave Coast Guard a 45-37 advantage at the break.
After outscoring the Bears 17-16 in the third quarter, the Camels made a push in the fourth to get within four. Donadio and
Charlotte Head (Holden, Mass.) took turns supplying buckets on the offensive end, with the former converting a layup to bring Conn to within 68-64 with 6:35 left.
The Bears responded with an 8-2 run that included threes by Mann and Stotts. Coast Guard never let the lead dip below six the rest of the way, sealing the victory with four free throws in the final minute.
Conn (3-1 overall) will next host Salve Regina University on Saturday, November 23 at noon.
