NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to post a 59-49 victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference clash at Luce Field House.
With the score tied at 36-36 in the fourth, the Camels took control behind an 18-6 run and held on down the stretch.
Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C) scored nine of her team-high 13 points in the final period as Conn remained unbeaten at home this season (3-0).
Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) helped the cause with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hayle Thompson (Maynard, Mass.) added eight points and seven boards while
Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) contributed seven points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Points were at a premium in the first half as both teams ratcheted up the defense. The Seahawks never trailed in the half as Amanda Folan led all scorers with eight points in the stanza. Conn never trailed by more than seven but went into the locker room down 25-20 at the break.
The Camels took their first lead of the day at 29-28 on a pair of free throws by
Charlotte Head (Holden, Mass.) with 1:46 left in the third. Head then made a layup in the final seconds of the period to spot Conn a 36-34 advantage heading into the fourth.
Conn opened the final quarter with back-to-back threes from Valeria Santiago Dedós (Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico) and Xerras to go up by six. Later, Donadio bookended a 10-2 run with a layup and a three-pointer as the Camels pushed the margin to double digits at 54-42 with 2:23 to go.
Salve Regina never got closer than eight the rest of the way. Folan finished with a game-high 16 points to pace the Seahawks, who dropped to 2-3 overall on the year.
Conn (4-1 overall) will next host Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, November 26 at 5:00 p.m.
