NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team pulled out a 68-65 overtime victory over Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday night in a non-conference tilt at Luce Field House.
Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) paced three Camels in double figures with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting.
Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) added 12 points and six rebounds while
Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C) netted five of her 10 points in the extra frame.
Points were hard to come by in the first half, but Conn never trailed and led by as many as seven before settling in with a 22-20 advantage at the break.
Sydney Marshall (Enfield, Conn.) contributed five points off the bench to spark the offense, and on the other end of the floor the Camels held the Warriors to 26-percent shooting in the stanza.
Eastern took its first lead just a minute into the second half on a three by Marissa Nudd. The third quarter alone featured eight lead changes and two ties, and the teams went into the fourth period knotted at 35-35.
Conn led by as many as six in the fourth, but a 10-2 run by the Warriors yielded a 53-49 lead with 1:56 remaining. The Camels scored the final four points of regulation—all from the foul line—to square the game. Both squads had a crack at a potential game-winning basket in the final 10 seconds, but neither side was able to convert.
In overtime, Xerras splashed a three to put the Camels up 62-59 with 1:48 to go. Hunter followed with a jumper to extend the lead to five with less than a minute to play, and Xerras and
Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) both converted free throws in the final 30 seconds to sew up the victory.
Taylor Salato netted a game-high 26 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Warriors (1-6 overall). Nudd and Kya Mayo also chipped in 13 points apiece.
Conn (5-1 overall) will next play a non-conference match-up against Middlebury College on Sunday, December 1 in Albany, N.Y.
