ALBANY, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a 62-51 decision to Middlebury College on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference meeting at the Broadview Center.
Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) paced the Camels with 12 points and added five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the setback.
Hayle Thompson (Maynard, Mass.) added a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards while
Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C) chipped in eight points and four caroms.
The Camels came out of the gates hot, shooting 10-for-16 in the opening quarter to race out to a 24-11 advantage after one. In the second period, a jumper in the lane by
Sydney Marshall (Enfield, Conn.) gave Conn its biggest lead of the day at 31-15 with 5:12 left in the half.
Middlebury clawed its way back with an 11-0 run to close the stanza. Five Panthers scored during the spurt, which cut Conn's lead to 31-26 at the break.
Just over four minutes into the third, a three-pointer by Calie Messina put Middlebury on top for the first time since the opening minute. After a pair of free throws by Hunter tied the game at 35-35, the Panthers outscored the Camels 15-4 over the final 4:58 to take a double-digit lead into the fourth.
Conn failed to make up any ground in the fourth as the teams each finished with 12 points apiece in the stanza. The Camels, who shot it better both overall (.351) and from distance (.375), couldn't overcome a 21-6 discrepancy on the offensive glass.
Alexa Mustafaj netted a game-high 15 points to lead the Panthers, who improved to 5-1 on the season.
Conn (5-2 overall) will next host Framingham State University on Thursday, December 5 at 6:00 p.m.
